Vivino is offering this VP at EUR27.50. Seems like a great deal. Does anyone happen to have tasting notes?

Hi Karel
If you type in “1985 Calem” you’ll get 9 different notes. (Without the quotes). Make sure you click the yellow Tasting Note Database link in the upper right corner of this forum while logged into the forum.

At EU 27.50 it's a decent deal. My notes from the last one I had say that it should be a daily drinker at this point, as it's either starting downhill or already partly down the hill. Others had somewhat better impressions of that particular bottle. I do still have one left so should probably take my own advice and drink up.

My experience of this wine is of a port that suffers a lot of bottle variation and quite often traces of VA. It can be really good, but isn't reliable..

I've never had a great bottle of Calem, regardless of the vintage. To the point I would not even buy the brand.

I enjoyed a great glass of this port at the Wines of Portugal event in London in Feb of this year. My very short notes were... ' Brick red with slight browning to the rim, Great fruit, very smooth, good balance, lovely heat on a medium/long finish. Look forward to trying again in 5 and 10 years+, 91 points'. I remember very much enjoying this sample more than at a Calem vertical arranged by Phil W for TPF in london at the end of Nov last year. That tasting showed Calem, and in particular the Foz bottlings, in a very favourable light. The bottle of 85 showcased by the producer at the Wines of Portugal event showed that the class of yesteryear is still evident in the right bottle.

At a FTLOP organized horizontal of 1997s with ~30 wines tasted blind, I scored the Calem 95 points. Not everyone picked it as #1, but when the votes were tallied, I believe it came out on top for the day.
