In Norway we have 5-6 internet auctions per year for all kinds of wines. Each time there are items of ports and madeira. The auction that ended last night had two bottles 1927 Fonseca vintage ports, which apparently were in pristine condition.
Prices end at NOK 16 500 + fees = NOK 19 800 (€ 2 030) and NOK 15 500 + fees = NOK 18 600 (€ 1 910). I think this must be the highest prices for ports sold officially in Norway. Two persons had been fighting for 10 days, and it ended up with one person buying both of them.

Well, that's cheaper than the one retail listing currently on wine-searcher, a shop in the UK that comes in at US$ 3712, or a little over 32,000 NOK. It has gone up a fair bit in the last few years. At the end of 2016, you could buy it for under US$ 2000.

I have not even seen 27 Fonseca available for a long time. I've been able to get 27 Taylor in great shape but Fonseca is much rarer.

It's a pretty rare wine and, to be fair, it's also a damn good wine.
As much as we have been used to being able to buy rarities like this in the past for modest sums of money, I think those days are gone. I know the shop in the UK who is offering F27 for $3,700. He has several bottles which are in good condition. His track record for selling bottles like these for the prices he asks is good — and I think he may even be under-pricing when you consider how rare bottles like this are. As Shawn says, some 1927 Vintage Ports like Taylor are relatively easy to find, but others like Fonseca, are much more difficult.

Picked up a '27 Warre semi-recently, but haven't seen '27 Fonseca for a while (not that I have been looking).
