Dolamore

I've just spied a bottle of Dolamore '47 in a sale catalogue.
Who are/were Dolamore??
I havn't heard of this brand before.

It is certainly not a wel-known or recognized brand. I have seen the '63 Dolamore in the $75 range. The '77 is also around on occasion but I believe that to be a Crusted Port.

OK, the auction is tomorrow night, one of those rare occasions when the lots are all around and have to paid for and removed same day.
I'm on a roll, and within reason going for a buy (I have it in mind to create a reference collection, if only to justify the number of bottles I own!)
So - How much will it go for??
Closest guess gets an invite to one of my dinner parties!

Tom, good luck at the auction! No idea what it might fetch...$100?
From what I've been able to find, Dolamore was a London based wine & spirits merchant. They bottled both Port and Bordeaux. I haven't found any reference on them after the 1980's...whether they went out of business or were taken over, I don't know.

Well Steve, as the only respondant, you win the prize!
In fact, you were out by about 100% - It sold for £121 (£110 + premium).
My last bid was £95 - I didn't buy it.
But I have just brought home 66 bottles!
It was a weird auction, with the '75's selling for double the price of recent auctions in London, and a case of Cockburn '67 went into orbit - why?
But I did get some excellent deals on '77's and '55's, and an owc case of 12 Dalva '70 for just £140 - I can't go far wrong at that price!
Now off to China for a few days on biz - very drinkable beer, but everything else is appalling!
Give me a shout when you're next in the UK - I'll book a table at a local pub and we can enjoy something out of my cellar!

A case of Dalva '70? Time to drink up, IMHO - this is fading. Here's my TN from about 2 years ago:
The second Port in this flight looked just “old”. Some VA, but not enough to be offensive. Not much more on the nose, though, apart form some alcohol. Good bodied, smooth, sweet, and rather nutty. Long smooth finish. Probably a VP that is over the hill, and that “has evolved into a delicious tawny”. 83 – Dalva 1970 Vintage Port.

If you're up for a larger party when Steven comes over then post a note here and tell us all what you organise.
I'd be more than happy to bring a bottle if you made it an open invitation - assuming that it wasn't too close to one of your busy times! :)
