2013 Quevedo Colheita Cask

Post by Andy Velebil »

Very dark color, same as the "Burgundy Barrel" sample. The nose on this is quite different. This has a more traditional soapy/waxy nose that is full of dark fruit. There is no overt oak or vanilla bourbon, which the Burgundy barrel sample has. The two could not be more different on the nose. While on the palate this shows more protruding alcohol at first (which blew off later) than the Burgundy Barrel sample, this retains much better fresh fruit, perceived acidity and tannins without excessive vanilla oak flavors. This still possess wonderful perceived acidity, lovely fruit, tannins and nicely balanced long finished. This appears to have a nice long life ahead if it in cask as it slowly matures into a fine old tawny. I preferred this one to the Burgundy Barrel sample.
Not rated being a cask sample.
