Please recommend Ports for Christmas Gift

Post by sheloveswine »

I'd like to give a gift to a man who has everything, he enjoys Port wine, I'd like a suggestion of wines to put in a "port basket".... I have no idea how much the LBV runs but would like to spend $100-ish and have something nice, perhaps 375ml bottles. I am in Ohio.

I just tasted port for the first time the other night and believe I fell in love.

Thanks.

Hello Jan,
I am from Indiana so I know something about your market there. You have a couple of options - something of a good recent vintage to lay down, or something from an older vintage that you can open and drink together. For something to lay away, maybe a pair of Taylor and Fonseca 375's from the heralded 2000 vintage (of course, if he's a man with everything maybe he already has those!). For something drinkable, maybe a 750ml from the 1991 or 1985 vintage. Dow's or Graham's comes to mind.
