Tasted: 3-14-2008
Decanted: 6 hours and drunk over 2 days.

Medium red and quite dark for it's age, like all the GC's I've had. Nice medicinal/eucalyptus aromas and still decent fruit in there. Just a little bit of heat in the end, but not enough to detract. Not much difference after 24 hours. Drinking beautifully now and has another 10 years at least.

Overall, this was a great surprise and a fantastic value at 80$. I don't recall ever seeing a tasting note on this particular year, so I had low expectations. I've had the 77, 83, 94, 97 and 2000 from GC which I've all enjoyed, but this is the best of the bunch.

18/20

It's funny because 1970 has to be one of best year across the board in many decades. I've yet to have a truly horrible 1970 VP. Some have been better than others, but none have been a total disapointment. I can't recall any other single vintage prior to 1994 where so many producers did such a good job.
