Vintage 2007 campaign is still being decided at the SAQ to know the brands/quantity and when they will have it. This is my opinion but I think it will arrive before the end of the year.

Thanks for posting this Frederick. I was trading emails and he mentioned Pisca, the vineyard with the new Vintage Port. I'd love to see it, no less try the 2007 VP from it.

Have you visited that vineyard during one of your many trips to see Dirk?

I did visited it in 2007 actually but at that time I did not know something special would emerge from it. I have tasted the barrel sample of Pisca in last September, I'll look into my books to see if I can find my tasting notes.

Thanks Fred for posting this, very informative.
Tomorrow Nick Delaforce is giving a tasting in London of 07, 05,03 and 1970 at a London wine merchants which I am aiming to attend. I think the idea behind Pisca is very interesting but suspect will not be there tomorrow!

Ok I found my notes, it was tasted on 8th september 2008. I tasted it along with 2 other barrels that they thought would be part of the final blend of the VP. At that moment, the Pisca was looking to be part of around 20% of the final blend. It might have been changed since then.

On the nose it had some banana flavours with floral notes, on the palate it is fresh on the entry, then bitter thight tannins kicks in, medium flesh, very long spicy finish. I did my final blend and it only accounted for 10% because of the banana flavours on the nose, I really wanted to bring those bitter tannins to give an extra grip as the other 2 components were already quite tannic and fleshy. When I did compare my final blend to the one Ze Rodrigo made, mine was more muscular, tannic and little bit alcoholic while his was more balance and fresh, much more in the way Niepoort wants his Port to be. It was an interesting day!

João,

As I sit here typing this in Porto, it is nice to be on a computer keyboard which already contains the accent marks.

I´d love to see you TNs on these Niepoort wine, but more than any other ... the 1977 Garrafeira. When you get a chance, please do add yours. I will never forget my 1927 Niepoort experience!
