2003 Quinta de Ventozelo LBV Port

Post by Andy Velebil »

Unfiltered, and from a 1/2 bottle. Decanted 8 hours.
This was the last of several nice bottles of wine that included a 2008 Quinta de Azevedo Vinho Verde and a 2006 Quinta do Crasto Reserva at dinner with friends last night. I've only had a couple of prior encounters with Q.d. Ventozelo Ports and they weren't very memorable, then again they were only basic ruby's. So I was looking forward to trying something else form them and what a nice treat this turned out to be. Plums, blueberries, and chocolate were very silky across the palate and the moderate tannins were perfectly poised. A nice medium long finish was enough to keep me captivated and wanting more after the bottle was gone. I rather enjoyed my first experience with this Quinta de Ventozelo LBV and I will buy more of these for sure.

Thanks for posting this TN. Total Wine in my area carries a lot of Osborne and Q d. Ventozelo LBV's and VP's. I think the last Ventozelo LBV I had was a '99 or '00 at my MPN a few years back. Your review is quite favourable, so I'm curious what would you consider a good price range for a normal bottle of this LBV?

If I could get it for around, or less than, $20/750ml then i'd consider that a good price.

Good to know, thanks! They stock it at $19.99, so I'll pick one up and check it out.
