Do you insure your Port collection?

Insurance companies like Chubb offer special insurance for wine collections. Of course you may not feel it is worth spending the money to protect your liquid assets, 'cause after all, what could possibly go wrong?

Either way, do you insure your Port collection?

Yes. My Port is insured both at home and whilst in off-site storage. It makes good sense :salute:

You mean like wehn the local teenage heroin addict breaks into your house while on vacation, drinking several of your loose Taylor 70’s and the like and not leaving tasting notes? Yes that happened, luckily he wasn’t interested in the OWC’s and he also liked my dad’s cheap 1.5L gin bottle.
I was covered in our homeowner’s insurance policy, but many of my bottles were got via “wheeling and dealing” so many did not have receipts, but our insurer was fair.

It is something that I have considered, but I haven't had the chance to get an estimate from our insurance company yet. I'll probably do that as soon as I get back from France... CellarTracker scares me when I look at the total bottles and total value summary!

Receipts? D'oh! I just threw out a bunch of receipts. At the time I figured I had put down what I paid for all of these bottles into my tracking spreadsheet and I didn't really need to keep the receipts around any more. I hadn't thought about this.

As it is, right now I have limited coverage from my regular homeowner's policy, but it has a specific low limit that would be applied to my Port and not cover everything. I've been thinking about getting a special rider for my collection.

What companies are you using to insure your wine collection. I can not find one company that will insure my collection. Chubb does not do business on Cape Cod unless the total policy is several million dollars and they won't do any stand alone policies. [dash1.gif]
