For The Love Of Port

Deep red centre, clear and going rosy on the rim. Nosing of tart cherries and rhubarb. Quite dry on entry, with soft tannins behind the ripe fruit; full bodied and beautifully complex with a slightly bitter element. Warm and delicious aftertaste; mouthfilling and with a very long length which is surprsisingly sweet. A very good port. 91/100. Drunk 1 Feb 2010.

If you were to project on when this Dow would be at peak, what would you surmise?

I would say that this is actually is just at the start at its plateau now. It still has some softening to do, but is delicious today. How long will it stay on it's plateau? I think a very long time indeed - ask me again in 20 years!

About 4 years ago I opened my lone bottle of this wine, and it still ranks as one of the best Ports I have ever had. Perhaps I either had a better bottle, or mine was further along the maturity curve, but it was about a 105 pt experience for me.
