Bottled in 2006, which means this was only in cask for 18 years... I am surprised this is labeled as a vintage rather than a colheita Madeira (I thought it has to be in cask for 20 years to be a vintage Madeira). This holds a lot of depth for such a youngster. Searing acidity, yet not austere. Burnt sugar, lemon/citus and honey. Bright, mouth-watering and palate-coating; a lovely racey creaminess. Superb cling on the palate with a mouth-puckering , lenthy bitter finish. A lot of "Terrantez character" here. Nice value for about $80. The second day I spent a little more undistracted time with it. Still love it, but lowered the score a tad. Not quite the concentration and depth I had thought, but still a wonderful value. (91 pts.)

Is it really labeled as "vintage?"
I've some bottled a couple years before that is labeled colheita.

Not labeled as "vintage", just doesn't say Colheita, which (I assume) implies vintage. It actually says "Reserva".

I was worried it would go to the Port forum, but it flawlessly got directed to the Madeira forum. Nice job!

I have had the 1988T and found it on the dry end of the terrantez spectrum. I also got the lemon/citrus note prominently. This is a very nice wine and a good value.

Was yours labeled as colheita?

The bottle that I drank was labeled "Harvest". It was bottled in 2003. The box in which it came had the description in different languages on each of four sides: Potuguese (colheita), English (harvest), German, and French. I have two bottles that were bottled in 2006. Both have "Harvest" on the bottle.

I also have the 1983 boal and the 1987 malvasia. Both have "Harvest" on the bottle. The 1983B was bottled in 2004. So it had been in cask for 21 years. Why is it harvest/colheita?

Hi.

Tasted this last week. Bottled in 2006, saying 'Colheita' (Harvest) in the bottle.

Really enjoyed it, although I was expecting it to be sweeter - I tasted very few Terrantez so far, so I'm still to form a clear idea of what to expect from it.

Anyway, should you be interested in the full taste note, it's available at:

Of the terrantez I have tasted D'Oliveira's have been the driest, MWC and Broadbent are at the sweet end, and Barbeito is in the middle.
