For The Love Of Port

Just as a bit of fun, suppose you were organising a port offline with 8 bottles being tasted and with 10 hard core port lovers attending. Through the miracle of shared cellars and an unlimited budget, you realize that you could have any 8 bottles you wanted from any producer and any vintage from 1800 onward.

Which 8 ports would you have in your Fantasy Port Offline?

Because those must so obviously be included? Well, after that, I've never tried the 1952 Dalva White Colheita, so that is on my list. The 1935 Sandeman VP probably merits another taste, and then start picking some Nacionals.

Hmm... so many choices... my list is going to be heavily biased toward Colheitas.

1906 Brunheda Colheita - the only Port I've ever rated 100 points, it gets an encore
1937 Warre Colheita - lucky for me, I have 3 in my cellar
1937 Noval Colheita - again lucky for me, I purchased 2 from the FTLOP importer-direct offering
1912 Niepoort Colheita
1890 AJS da Silva Colheita
1863 Vezuvio

1931 Noval Vintage Port - allegedly the greatest Port ever made, so it has to be on the list
1963 Noval Nacional Vintage Port - some might argue that this is equal to the 1931 Noval, so let's compare

I had to REALLY think about this. 8 is such a limited number, so I wanted to make sure I got it right

In no particular order:

1912 Taylor VP
1945 Fonseca VP
1963 Dow VP
1961 Warre's Colheita
1940 Kopke Colheita
1912 Niepoort Colheita
1963 Graham's VP
1963 Noval Nacional Vintage Port (OK ... MAYBE this one would be #1.)

Fortunately, there is still hope for a couple of these.

They aren't cheap tickets, but there are a good number of them out there in case you don't already have one in your cellar.

That's exactly what I was thinking. While it might not be cheap, it might just still be practical to pull together a half-decent 1945 horizontal. Not sure we'd be able to stretch to Roy's suggested 1912 horizontal in a couple of years time though - is that your current fantasy offline Roy?
