Back to business. Currently enjoying Warre's Otima's 10 year old tawny - although a bit early for tawny, but nonetheless I look forward to the daffodils blossoming, the time of spring. Curious as to why you think it's a bit early for a 10 year? Do you mean it's too early in the year to drink tawny'...

Yes I very much agree. I'm going to hold onto it for now, and worry about it in the near future. Better to preserve a future 'love and joy'. Back to business. Currently enjoying Warre's Otima's 10 year old tawny - although a bit early for tawny, but nonetheless I look forward to the daffodils blosso...

Thanks for the replies. Derek, I've tried a number of port bottles ranging from £5 onwards. Sainsbury's in my opinion, has the best deals on port right now. From Warre's to Dow's, you can pick up a bottle of Otima 10 year old tawny (which I also have) for £9.99! :D Last summer, they did a special of...

Thanks for the vivid responses. Very interesting nonetheless. I can't really advise you on investing in port to make money, all I can say is that the wines that you have listed are a great start to a port cellar and - if you are currently only 18 - you have a great chance to follow these wines as th...

Investment?

Do any of you here invest in your port seriously? If so, do you invest in future drinking, or for financial gain? List your favourites if you like. I hear the investment value in port wine varies greatly, depending on its rarity and at the time of declared vintage. I recently bought several bottles,...

As Derek advised me to ask what would happen if the wine was spoiled, I received an e-mail answering my inquiries. Nicholas, Thanks for your email. In answer to your questions, the wine is safe whilst in transit to you, and if any bottles are broken or damaged, we will of course issue you a credit f...

That's what I though Derek. Here's a picture of the bottles (although I'm only buying one!). What do you all reckon of the condition? Click on the thumbnail below to enlarge.

I received an email from Bibendum regarding Dow's 1977 port. Many thanks for your query. Unfortunately we are unable to trace the precise provenance of the port but I can assure you that we have bought them from a reputable source. I have attached a photo of the bottles that shows that they are stil...

Interesting observations here. I have tried cuban cigars before with port, but nothing of the age I'm looking to buy (1977). In that respect, I can imagine why matured vintage wouldn't go well with a cuban cigar. Something of a lighter load, such as Tawny would be an interesting combination to try. ...

Using the above searcher, I've found one for £67.99 inc delivery. I save around £25. How's that to you?

For an additional £40, I can get Dow's 1983 port for a total of £109.99 inc delivery from a shop in London called bibendum-wine.co.uk

Thanks

Good to read a helpful post by a fellow from good cold Old Blighty! Thanks for the advise and seeing that you've drunk over 10 bottles no doubt gave the impression that you certainly liked it! I'm contemplating on buying a Dow's 1977 bottle from vintagewinegifts.co.uk at a cost of £89.99 - principal...

Dow's 1977 Silver Jubilee?

Any good? I heard that 1977 was an excellent year for port vintage.

Does anyone recommend a 1977 vintage port that is better than Dow's if it is to be?

Thanks

We were going to preserve the bottle until Christmas day, but I soon decided at the tender age of 18 that I may never get the chance to drink it!. So hell, I opened it. The cork came out surprisingly well with no resistance. The aroma was quite weak however, but the fruity mixture become quite enric...

Warre's Ruby port (24 yrs old)?

Hullo,

Me and my father found a bottle of Warre's Ruby port (No: 117957 if that's much use) in the loft that is believed to be at least 24 years old.

I know little about Ruby port, but is the bottle, regarding the suggested age above, drinkable? Does Ruby mature like vintage port?

Thanks

I picked up a bottle of TY 10 year old tawny today (£14.99 from Sainsbury's. Being new to tawny, I was satisfied by the taste and quality, even though my experience with port is limited. It is a kind of drink you would consider if you desire to enjoy a class of port each evening, rather than spendin...

Derek, you should be able to see it now. I've done a quick search under the keywords of ''Tawny and NV''. To my amazement, a rather colossal search came up displaying all ranges of Twany. The trouble is, I am great difficulty in choosing a good Tawny bottle. The price around £45 would be my maximum ...

Nicholas, I was delighted to read in your other thread that you had washed those old tights - the alternative was too horrible to contemplate  However, this is another reason not to use them as the fabric was more than likely coated with detergents and fabric softner, both of which would hav...

I sometimes get this effect on the inside of some old glasses that I still use. It seems to be the glass itself, rather than anything sticking to it - presumably some form of chemical reaction to the cleaning agents used in a dishwasher. One of my decanters was given to me by my father many years a...
