Bubbles in port
I opened up a bottle of Quarles Harris ruby port today. I noticed that it was rather bubbly as I poured. It eventually subsided and the resulting product tasted just fine. I have never seen this in any of the ports I have had this far and I was wondering if this is unusual for ports or if it happens...

The Symingtons
So I've been trying a few ports lately. And I have come to notice that quite a few brands are owned by the Symingtons family. (Dows, Warres Warrior, cockburns.) Is there any noticeable between the brands? Do all the grapes come from the same estate?

Thanks for the reply Roy. I'm kind of geeking out on port knowledge right now so your reply hit the spot.

Vinho Do Porto Garantia numbers
Anybody know what the numbers mean on the vinho do Porto garantia? Is it something the average consumer can decipher or is it just something for the manufacturer?

Should Founders Reserve have a crust?
Opened my first ever bottle of Sandemans Founders Reserve today. I was suprised to find a crust on the bottom. In my limited experience with port, I always thought this style shouldn't need decanting but correct me if I'm wrong. The bottle was pretty dusty when I bought it so it might have some age ...

Re: Quarles Harris 94&11
I scooped up a 94 last weekend. Im waiting for a good occasion to drink it and I've never decanted a wine before so I want to do it properly. Seems to me like decanting is somewhat of a Japanese tea ceremony on this forum. In my neck of the woods there is plenty of 94/11 Quarles Harris at Trader Joe...

Quarles Harris 94&11
I've recently seen these at Trader Joes for $40 a piece. I understand these were good years and seems almost too good to be true. Anybody try these yet?

Re: Tannins and Port
Thanks for the reply Andy. I've seen Six Grapes and Fonseca bin 27 (both at Costco) but I didn't know they were Reserves. The last thing I picked up was a Dows 2008 late bottled vintage. It was on sale for $22 seemed like a good deal!

Tannins and Port
I recently tried a bottle of Dows Ruby port. As a novice port drinker, I thought it was good. It was smooth and had a nice body to it. One thing I noticed was the feeling it left on my teeth and gums. I was constantly feeling this sensation with my tounge. After reading the FAQ section on this websi...
