Wanted in the UK: Smith Woodhouse 1977
Gentlemen
I am currently on the lookout for a case or two of SW77 to top up my fast dwindling reserves. The best I can find on wine-searcher is J&B's 9 cases at 365 ib. A bit pricey but impeccable provenance.
Does anyone have a whiff of Smith out there at a lower price. I've been keeping one eye on the auctions this year but nothing's come up yet.
Thanks
Philip

I can see 77s drying up now and no doubt speculators are keeping their powder dry to target the 30-year market. Look what happened to the 66 market this year. Maybe they'll be less of an effect for a 30yr anniversary, but 77s are already high to start with whereas 66s just one year ago were a bargain.Philip Harvey wrote:Will do. I suspect we'll see a few more cases appearing soon now the 30yr anniversary is upon us. Hopefully also some Gould Campbell 77 will work its way out onto the market.
Tom's right that you usually see a SW77 about once a month at auction, but that said I have not seen any for sometime now.
If you ever get to London to do the split and see a case at auction and want to share it let me know. As everyone on this site knows my motto is "you can never have too much Smith Woodhouse 77"

Come to think about it, now the cricket season is over even I'm getting fed up with that picture of Mushtaq Ahmed so I may replace it with a bottle of SW77 8)

Stuart,
I have been watching this post every day wondering when the God of SW77 would chip in with his words of wisdom on how best to source his favourite nectar - I had to wait a few days but you didn't disappoint me
I think you're right about the picture, perhaps a bottle of SW77 with a picture of your head airbrushed on top of the neck would do the trick 8)

I'm not the God - that's the SW '77 (well, a sort of pagan God)
I'm a sort of druid really, that worships that God at sunset.
Question is, will my current stocks last me until 2008? Or will I need to buy during '07? I've only got about 10 bottles just now.
In my job the lead to 31 Oct. is a bit hectic, so now that is over I'll get back up to full speed on more important matters now. Like stocking up on SW77 for the winter and reading last month's posts.

Stuart/Phillip take note:
3 owc's GC '77 are being sold tomorrow evening, Tuesday 5th Dec, at Cheffins Cambridge.
I will be there in person, but don't need any for my cellar.
If you want me to bid for you, let me have your max bid before 5pm - 10% BP applies.
At some point in the next month I expect to be making a trip to Cornwall via Portsmouth, so an RVP that's not a million miles from Poole should be possible.
