1999 Ferreira LBV Port

Post by Roy Hersh »

Although I did not note the words Traditional or Unfiltered anywhere on the bottle, I am almost positive that Ferreira does make this style of Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) Port.

The 1990 LBV offers a dark ruby color with a very inviting aromatic profile. It was bottled in 2003, after aging for 4 years in oak. I have no signs of sediment in my glass but believe that is due to the youth of the wine and the proximity to its date of bottling. The nose provides some prominent glove leatherscents, vanilla, black licorice and pipe tobacco which together are most enjoyable. The light to medium bodied weight of the wine, makes this very easy to approach and enjoy. On the palate, it is round, with a slightly drier profile than I typically find with Ferreira Ports. There is a bit of heat which is distracting but not to where it is objectionable. 87 pts.

Roy,

Very interesting as I have a case of the Vintage 1999. I don't think I have tasted it yet, I will have to look. The LBV is very good, I know. Do you have any notes on the '99 vintage?

Wow, we are getting some heavy Port hitters in here. How are you Michael. Nice to have someone with your depth of knowledge on Ports joining us! :)

Although I have had my share of '99 VPs, I have not had the Ferreira VP from this vintage. Sorry about that.

Welcome to the Forum, it is great to see you after a few months without contact. We need to drink some more great Ports buddy!
