Dec. 2015: What is the best Portuguese wine you've tasted this year?

We used to do this every year, ask

participants to elaborate on which was the best Douro/Portuguese table wine that they tasted during this year. We began by asking for the single best bottle you've tried. There is nothing wrong if you are new, to say: "Loved the basic white wine by XYZ". We do not want anyone to be intimidated when some of the old timers or people with mature cellars, include crazy old bottles of amazing Portuguese table wines. Everyone is welcome to contribute what they enjoyed most so far. Of course there are a few weeks left in the year. But have no fear, this will remain at the top of the page for the balance of this month, at the very least.

Also know that some people like to break out categories of wine by age, or white/red/bubbly and put their favorites from each category. Sometimes one, or sometimes their top few from each category. No rules this year, just have at it and have fun. Please do mention your faves though!

I've not looked though my notes yet, but off the top of my head;

Quinta da Manuela was awesome

Guru white

and I'll be back when I sort my notes.

Hmm tasted a lot of young wines this year. These wines i loved:

1. Quinta do Crasto Vinha da Ponte 2012. Served by mister Roquette himself @ Quinta do Crasto during dinner. Great wine, impressive density.
2. Quinta do Vale Meao. Lovely wine 2013, real power house. To young to drink now, in my opinion

Beste White:
1. Alvarinho - Reguengo de Melgaco - Great fresh wine from Vinho Verde area. Fresh and mineral, great with fish or salad.

These three are all close to each other, but ended up in this order
1) 2005 Crasto Touriga Nacional
2) 2011 Vale Meao
3) 2005 Crasto Maria Teresa

All consumed with meat dinners.

I opened one of two bottles up a 1948 Fonesca that I had gotten from an auction. It was to give a toast to one of my brothers that passed away. This was by far the best port I have every had. He was a special guy so he got one of the best port I have.

I don't keep notes on wines usually, but the one Portuguese wine that pops to mind is Niepoort COCHE. Never thought I would go for a white wine as the best of the year, but had it twice and it left an impression both times.
