Given the legendary status of this wine and the price you would pay today for a bottle of the much more common 1963 (around $4,500 according to Wine Searcher) that seems a remarkably good price for a potential buyer. The last bottles I know of which sold at auction (Christie's London in 2006) went for around $7,500.

So c'mon someone - snap up a bargain!

Uh, is that 57,000 or is there an extra "0" that doesn't belong there?

Who's the sellar? Storage conditions? History? Fill level, etc?

Too late, I am pretty sure one of the guys in our community is going to purchase this bottle.

I am sure he asked all of those questions and more, Andy.

$5,700 of course.

Agree with Alex, this was a screaming deal.

In 2013, two bottles were purchased, one in the USA and one in the Bahamas. Both were $10,000 each and at the time ... I believe they were the highest prices ever paid for any individual bottles of Port. I was fortunate to take part in both of those. One was corked, with zero recourse you can imagine THAT feeling. The buyer of both shrugged it off and said, "I'll be right back". He walks out my front door, goes to his car and comes back in with a 2nd bottle. Now who does that. As I helped him arrange the purchase of the first bottle, I was devastated. What I didn't now was that two days after that arrived in his possession he flew with a friend to a well known wine destination in the Bahamas and convinced them to sell him their only bottle. That bottle was the best of 4 that I have been a part of. The only one to receive a perfect score. Nobody at the table was less than 99 points. And for any doubters, we tonged the cork and saw the brand on it, but the label and source were impeccable ... as was the wine. Still, $20k for those two bottles of Port.

It must be nice! :NotWorthy:

I wrote an article in far greater detail, for The World of Fine Wines (and FTLOP) on that tasting ... those were just two of many bottles that ranged between 1851-1994. The only time in my life handing out more than one 100 point score in a night, and this ... the greatest Port tasting of my life, produced 3 perfect scores from me. I was going to back track ... as I had only given out three perfect scores in my life (for Ports) to that point. They all convinced me that it was "ok" to put it in writing. [friends.gif]
