Lots of oak in the aroma, hint of tar and char. Acid and tannins are both present, but subdued. Later the aroma had more char, like a Bourbon barrel before the Bourbon.

Sounds like they need to dial back the new oak.

And perhaps the toast in the oak. But if you like oaky wines (sometimes I do), give it a try.
