2017 Post Scriptum. i wasn't too crazy about the first sip but it opened up in the glass. i guess this could be kept for quite a few years.

Sorry - I left out some critical info "Encruzado". No it's not ready. I regret opening it.
It's superb... but has lots of potential!

1991 Messias Bairrada. Purchased at the domaine. Dense, dark, and earthy. Definitely made with Baga. Hard at first and needed a couple hours of air, but became rich and balanced. I got this vintage since it was midaged from their stock. I need to get more and try other vintages.

Quinta Cabriz Dao. Great budget wine for during the week. Been buying their wines for 20 years! Has to be some of the better wine values there is.

2015 Pombal do Vesuvio. Always been a darn good QPR wine. Needs a short decant, about 30 min, then it hits its stride.

2009 Quinta do Crasto Old Vine Reserva. One of my favorite vintages of this wine. I’ve consumed a lot over the years. IMO, it’s now reached the perfect balance in its life. Should have a few more years before a slow slide into maturity. 92 points.
As a side note. I’m torn on this because I love it but don’t think it will get better with age. I feel it will lose that balance and complexity that makes it so tasty right now.

Re: What Portuguese wines have you opened this week
I see that with a lot of 2009 Douro. It was a hot year. The wines show it. I'm surprised that they aren't showing more of a "roasted" character, but I'm happy that they are hanging in there. I am drinking most of my 2009's over the next couple years.Andy Velebil wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 8:10 pm I’m torn on this because I love it but don’t think it will get better with age.
Re: What Portuguese wines have you opened this week
In general I think 2009 is a very good year for Douro reds.
At our place we have seen that red wines from 2009 are showing signs of being on the top and even over the top. Examples are 2009 Vale Meao (couple of half good bottles last winter), 2009 Alves de Sousa Quinta da Gaivosa (one bad bottle this summer), 2009 Alves de Sousa Abandonado (one weak bottle this spring) and even 2009 Crasto Reserva (no bad bottles but with lower scores). We have no more 2009 Crasto Reserva in our cellar.
However, the 2009 Crasto Maria Teresa and 2009 Casa Ferreirinha Reserva Especial are still wonderful.
We have had plenty of very nice 2009-bottles from the producers above, and also in addition Quinta da Leda, Vale D. Maria Tinto, Crasto Touriga Nacional and Crasto Tinta Roriz, Wine & Soul Manoella vvv (last two bottles was not as good as the others).
Wine & Soul 2009 Pintas - six bottles and they were all excellent.
