We all get excited about vintage ports, tawnys, LBVs, and colheitas but there's some odd things I'm finding out there and I have no idea what they are or if they're any good. Maybe Roy or Mario can help me out. Here's some odd ports I've found:
Ferreira Aciprestes
Kopke 300 Year Old Anniversary
Niepoort Invalid Port (I like the name on this one)
1815 Ferreira Garrafeira (At a price of 1636 Euros I won't be buying it... I thought wines like these were limited to Madeiras!)
Taylor's Camu
Real Vinicola Revinor
Has anyone tried the Don Pedro V or Whitmann Millennium Ports?
etc...
Perhaps these are ports that are common in Portugal that I haven't heard of before... Are they common in Portugal? Are they any good? What type of ports are these?
When I finally make it over to the Gaia, and I will next year, I plan on buying and tasting a ton of these lesser known ports. That's how you get the better deals and it's also how you discover new things. Some of these things could be cough medicine while others could be the next Fonseca that couldn't afford a huge marketing campaign or payoffs to noted critics. (No names mentioned)
And after I've found them and purchased all I can afford, I let you guys know about it.
