I see lots of port available on WC but since I don't know how it was stored I've never bought any. So what are your experiences with buy port at auction?

I don't buy from wine commune for the same reason. Also, the shipping costs are ridiculous. I like wine bid and have been very happy with the ports I have recieved from them.

I have bought a fair amount of wine from Wine Commune, going back as far as 1900. Have had mostly good luck, getting good bottles in good condition. Did get burned once - the bottle was never shipped - and it was an expensive one. Now I mostly buy from within my own state - California. I buy from people with good ratings - one of the great things about Wine Commune and Ebay.

Storage is not going to be any better on WineBid. Most wine is consigned to them without inspection of the cellar is came from. They ask where the wine was stored when they get it. But people can and will lie about it. Whith older wine it usually had been owned by multiple people anyway.

One advantage of Wine Commune over WineBid is that you can email the person selling it and find out more about the lot.

The big auction houses have different standards in buying cellars. Butterfields is not very particular about storage compared to the others.

So you never know. But if somebody has lots of high quality wine the odds are they have taken care of it compared to somebody that is selling just an odd bottle.

Great to hear from you again. Hope all has been well with you.

As for WC, I've bought from them on occassion and have not had any issues, Since I live 1/2 a state away shipping is quite cheap and gets to me in 2 days so I dont have to pay for second day air.
