Kirkland Tawny Port

Post by Matt Slayen »

So I got a bottle of Kirkland (Costco House Brand) 10 year Tawny Port.
It has the IDVP seal on the top.
It says it is produced by Quinta and Vineyard Bottlers.... which i think is part of teh the Taylor / Fonseca group.

I know i have tasted this before.
I'm sure it is a rebranded bottle of Taylor 10 yr or fonseca 10 yr or one of the others....
Anyone know what it is?

Its not bad for what it is... i prefer the Krohn 10yr though...

Matt,

QaVB certainly is part of The Fladgate Partnership and is the company they use for bottling their wines.

I would be very surprised if this was simply a re-labelled Taylor or Fonseca 10 yr old as all that would achieve would be to reduce the price of wines which have an existing market at full cost. My understanding is that these BOB's are normally produced using the surplus wines that do not make it into the main brand blends. It is likely that the wine comes from more than one shipper within the TFP group.

It's not a rebranded bottle of Fonseca or Taylor. Actually, this season's Kirkland tastes different than last year's. I wish I still had last year's to do a side-by-side. If you do try Kirkland next to Taylor or Fonseca, you'll notice a difference. Which one is better; can't say for sure.

Either way, the Kirkland is a great buy.
