I have used them many times over the years, mostly in tasting notes. But I find there are certain aspects of vintage Ports in particular, which can be associated with similar characteristics in specific lines of cars. This analogy came to mind when reading the current thread on Favorite Vintage Ports of Warre. Andy had this to say:
I'd say Warre's was the Rolls Royce, where a Fonseca, Taylors, or Noval would be a Ferrarri. Both great cars, but one exudes elegance and beauty where the other displays muscle, strength, and ferociousness.
So without further ado, I'd like to turn the microphone over to you and ask you to share your similar thoughts about Ports and cars, if you care to.
Haha... that's funny, because I'd already made this connection for one Port that I drink.
I was having difficulty explaining to a friend the qualities of the Broadbent Auction Reserve that I drink as an "in between" Port. None of the usual terminology seemed to work... it's a great reserve-level Port, but try explaining that to someone who doesn't really understand the various levels of Port.
So I described it as the Toyota Camry of Ports. It's on the lower end of the scale, but not at the bottom. It's also a very solid, very dependable Port, and at least to me it's one of the best in its class. But if you compare it to an top tier Vintage Port, it will seem rather bland and lifeless... much as you would feel about a Camry if you compared it to a Mercedes AMG or a BMW M-Series.

I don’t see any connection at all – don’t recall any comparison to any auto (except autovinification) in my notes.
Of course I sometimes get into trouble with terms like ‘everything up front’ – maybe I should use ‘front wheel drive’!

Derek, how many cases of Pink Port did you get from Mr. Bridge for this tour de force? I wonder, if it would also fit my BMW for a procession to Maastricht, the next capital of Pink Port in my area.
