1970 will be standing as a very good vintage for portwine.
Mature, very nice aromas of tea, anise, dried fruits and chocolate.
I am sorry to say that this wine doesn`t have a lot of concentration, it is very sweet and the finish is not very long.
Suckling gave this wine a 74 when drinking it at its prime, I had this wine a little over a year ago on Thanksgiving. It will never live up to the Taylor but I still found it an interesting if average quality wine. Here were my tasting notes:
Krohn 1970 Vintage Port
Medium rose in color with a light pink-rose rim and great clarity. This wine was very light coming out of the bottle, it was decanted for 6 hours before first consumption. A very floral nose with sweet strawberries and hints of raspberries showing, quite appealing and fresh. Quite sweet with moderate acidity and alcohol showing, but with completely integrated tannins that are silky smooth. Fresh strawberries on the palate with a long, long finish with a bit of watermelon showing. A port that is past its prime, but still pleasant. 76/100
This was an interesting drink for me with the strawberry and watermelon flavors, quite different for a vintage port. But still a pleasant drink. Cheers.
