vinha da palestra

Post by Jim Butler »

Ok...first, let me say that this is not a "premium" wine...

We had dinner last night in Cambridge, Ma. before going to see Robin Williams.
We discoverd a small restaurant there that I mentioned before, Casa Portugal.

We had dinner there, and ordered an inexpensive bottle of wine for dinner, as the couple we were with are on somewhat of a budget. The wine list had many bottles of wine for under $20, which in itself is fairly rare in this area.

I ordered the Vinha da Palestra, not even realizing it was a douro wine until it came to the table.
None of us could believe how great this wine was...and we've all been around red wine for quite awhile.

It was $14 on the wine list...I'll be talking to my local shop about getting a few cases, just to have downstairs. I'd be happy to serve this wine with any full-flavored or spicey dish, which we tend to lean towards in our kitchen anyway.

Where in Cambridge is this? Is the food traditional?

It's on Cambridge Street, just South of the East Coast Grill.

The food is excellent and I would consider it authentic.
