Roy-
You mentioned in your newsletter about a 2003 VP tasting in San Francisco. Is this an industry only event or open to the public? Was it a one shot deal or somthing more often?
I'd be very interested in attending one in the future.
thanks.

Hi Matt,
First of all, welcome to FTLOP. I hope you will find this a friendly place to come visit and share your experiences.
The San Francisco tasting, was a road show that visited NYC, Chicago, SF and Los Angeles as far as I can remember. The tastings were by invitation only for members of the wine press, retail trade as well as restaurant and hotel wine buyers. This was not a tasting for consumers.
The players in attendance were The Fladgate Partnership which consists of Taylor Fladgate, Fonseca, Croft and Delaforce. The Symington's were also there in force with their stable of Graham, Dow, Warre, Quinta do Vesuvio, Gould Campbell, Smith Woodhouse, Quarles Harris and Quinta do Roriz (the latter of which is a joint venture). Additionally, Quinta do Noval was there and showed their regular Noval VP, as well as the Q do Noval Sival and of course, Q do Noval Nacional.
As this was to provide opportunities for the trade to get their first look and taste of these Ports, it also provided a chance for the on-premise and off-premise account buyers to take advantage of special pre-release wholesale pricing.
There are times during the year where the Port trade, wholesalers and/or importers host great Port tastings for the public, so keep your eyes open. I am sure that I will be reporting on these coming events on this website!

Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com
