1997 Fonseca - decant time?

Help! I can't wait - will open tomorrow for after Sunday dinner with a friend - how long should I decant? [imnewhere.gif]

In about 10 years time :wink:

...but if you must do it now I would give it 6 to 8 hours. Enjoy!

Agree with Derek on all fronts (in this thread at least 8--) ) and would tend toward 8 hours given his range.

I'm looking forward to the TN. I have one 1997 Fonseca at the moment and am wondering if I should by more as it is my anniversary year.

Generally similar advice for other major 1997s? I have been eying both Dow & Graham lately.
Drink German Riesling. The low alcohol means you can have a bottle of Port for dessert.

Even at 13 years old, 1997 Ports are still pretty young. I'd give any major brand 8 hours in decanter before serving, and wouldn't be a bit surprised if some of the really big Ports (in this case Niepoort, for example) need 12 or more.
