Seattle area tasting, January 29, 2011
In this post Roy suggested that we should plan another tasting for January.
So here's the planning thread!
Date: I suggest late in January, as early in the month is too close to the Christmas/New Year hubbub. Saturday the 22nd or Saturday the 29th would both probably work.
Theme: I have a half dozen "spare" bottles of 1985 VPs that could form the basis for a tasting. That year is also usually pretty easy to find online, so by starting now people would have plenty of time to order something, have it arrive, and give it time to settle down from shipping.
Location: Roy suggested the Holiday Inn in Issaquah which we have used in the past. It's easy to get to and reasonably inexpensive, so that sounds like a good idea to me.
How's that sound? Any other ideas for a theme? (I just tossed that one out there to get people started!)

Sounds like a good time for a tasting, I would be able to attend. It might be a little difficult to source a 1985 bottle in BC, but if I could reserve something in Seattle or ship a bottle to you it would work well since there is still lots of time left to prepare.
I second the idea of hosting it at the Holiday Inn. Makes getting to bed easy and safe after many bottles of port :)

January 2015 my children will both be at college and we'll be empty nesters - and looking to see parts of the world we've not seen before. Not sure I want to show my better half Seattle in January, but 2015 might be a chance for us to make a trip to the US.

Duly noted. That's one of the better options I'm considering for my 1985 horizontal.Al B. wrote:January 2015 my children will both be at college and we'll be empty nesters - and looking to see parts of the world we've not seen before. 1985? Well I guess they are 25 years old. Babies too, but just as a thought ... what about an eclectic tasting broken up into VPs and Wood Aged where 1985 would be the youngst VPs and therefore we could start Tawny or Colheita at 30 year of age.
At least you were kind enough not to do this on a Sunday NFL playoff football day, after I made that mistake in 2009. Thanks Glenn.

If it's the 22nd, Ruth and I would love to come.
If it's the 29th, we might be out of town.

Re: Seattle area tasting, January 22, 2011
Sounds like the only preference we have is for Saturday, January 22nd, so let's make that the date.
I'm still flexible on theme - I only tossed out 1985 to get a discussion started. I'd also be perfectly happy with the same theme we had last time, which was "bring a nice bottle to share" and that worked out pretty okay didn't it?
I'll update the first post and add a guest list so we can keep track.

I could make the 29th, but if it's the 22nd, I'll have to miss it!
That's the one weekend in January I'll be busy.

D'ohh!
Hmm... well Sandy said they might be out of town on the 29th, so that might still work. We'll have to wait and see what Sandy finds out.

I'm reasonably certain that I can make it on either of those dates. Unless something weird happens.
Count me in.

Re: Seattle area tasting, January 22, 2011
Very cool Sandy. The 29th it is ... everyone else can make that, right?

Added you to the list, Steve. Welcome aboard!Steve Pollack wrote:I think I can make it if there is still room.
That puts us at 12, so I'm going to call it full. Keep signing up if you can make it, though, and I'll start a waiting list. If the waiting list gets long enough we might try for something interesting that can include more people... like a magnum tasting! (Or something... we'll figure something out.

Too early for me to tell. Airfares are generally low, but I don't know my work schedule well enough.
