Toss up between the 1862 Borges Terrantez and the 1802 Acciaioly Terrantez in New York with the edge going to the Borges. Outside New York, another from the Fortification Tour, the 1850 Verdelho at D'Oliverias. Wow, I've had some wonderful Fortified Wines so far this year!

A tie between the 1846 Borges terrantez and the 1802 Acciaioly terrantez from the New York event.

Back in the real world the best for the first half of the year is Barbeito 30 year malvazia.

Being a Madeira newbie, my 'biggie' was the '68 D'Olivieras Boal.

So, so, so tempted to splurge on a much older one, though! [beg.gif]

PS: Roy, I wish you had installed a smily for "kneel down and worship" for this wine :D

Yes, we need a "We're not worthy" smily!

1968 D'Oliveiras Bual, first tasted at the stroke of midnight New Year's Eve, and repeated for several days. Truly outstanding stuff.

So far, in my young Madeira career, my favorite, as well!

Agreed on the "not worthy" smiley. I have seen that one elsewhere. Need to find it! :thanks:

I can't make up my mind, yet. It has been a fine year for Madeira in 2012 ... damn, where is that "not worthy" emoticon. Anyway, I need to figure this one out and soon.

Not my best for 2012 but the most interesting so far: Vinhos Barbeito, Cask 119 Verdelho, 1996.
I am with Spurrier on that one: elegant, floral, great purity, subtle balance. Delicious summer wine.

Oh for the days when $200 got you back into the 1700s. (Not very long ago, actually!) I'm satisfying my Madeira taste now with the humble, but worthy, Broadbent Colhieta 1996, about all that I can afford. I remember one day selling Roy 2 bottles of Barbieto 1900 Malvasia for I think about $100 apiece, to take with him on a special occasion. Not that I begrudge the bottles, but.....

Don't forget the German Eiswein's, John. Those were the days. Actually, I have one 1989 left.
