This wine has been recently offered on WineCommune. I understand that Christian Zeller has something to do with its discovery and marketing. What do you know about this one, Roy?
Kisses to Taylor.
Best, John Trombley Piqua (Miami County, on the Miami-Erie Canais, OH)
Tom, it looks so tidy because it's a colheita port. Bottled recently from a barrel that was discovered a couple of years ago. I don't recall the exact history (and who's involved), but I believe Stevie knows. I'm sure he'll chime in...
This 1880 was indeed discovered by mr. Van Zellar and bottled in 1999 by Niepoort - as such, it is indeed a Colheita, similar to the famous 1853 "Pedro V" bottlings: also recently bottled from a "forgotten" cask. I think there is also a NV Over 100 YOT bottled by Whitwham for the same source, but I could be mistaken. I have not tasted these Ports.

It is definitely a Colheita. I have not had the 1880 but have enjoyed the 1853. Cristiano came across the cask and Dirk did the bottling. If it is anywhere near as good as the '53, you are in for a very good time John. I hope all is well with your health and well being my friend.
Remarkably, I have a group of photos of another bottle from 1880 that I received today. It looks like an etched metalic label and from a producer I have never heard of: Jose Luis Borrajo and the only other verbiage of note is: Garrafeira Particular, Porto Velho.
Anyone familiar with that producer or bottling. It looks fairly new from what I can tell.
Lemme know how to upload a photo here and I'll include it too.
Although it was a heck of a fine bottle, it was definitely not the best Port I had while on the trip, although I think it was the oldest Port I have had ... since July.
