A pair from dinner

Cristiano van Zeller and his importer were here for dinner. The Douro wines included were 2005 Niepoort Redoma Branco Reserva which was showing in fine form and a bottle of 2000 Quinta do Portal Grand Reserve DOC which was served blind. Cristiano was sure this was his own Q V. d Maria bottling from 2003 or 2004. He was quite surprised and had some very kind words for this Douro red. Additionally we had a fine mag of Champagne, a 1989 Drouhin Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatieres which was in perfect condition, followed by 1983 Hanzell Pinot Noir which was solid but not at its best but with a huge slab of beef, the Portal was the far better pairing. Desserts were fun too!
