1976 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port

Post by nicos neocleous »

Tasted on 3 August 2005.

1976 Fonseca Guimaraens
This spent 12 hours in a decanter before being poured back into the bottle and then brought to the restaurant. Opaque purple with a hint of terracotta at the rim. The nose was fruit-filled, quite primary with lots of dark chocolate nuances in the mix. I still cannot believe how young it tasted and looked! This was rich, opulent, extremely well balanced and so easy to drink. The length was velvet smooth, and it will be interesting to see how this will develop. For me it was the surprise of the evening and thanks to David for bringing it along. 94/100.

Couldn'd agree more with your TN, Nicos - this is a real beauty! I tried it last year, and was also VERy surprised how youthful this VP showed.

Nicos

Thanks for posting this. I have one bottle of the 1976 Guimareans and I've been wondering how long to keep it. Sounds as though there's no rush to open it.

Guys,
Thanks for your feedback.

David,
If you ever need a drinking partner for this bottle, let me know.
