1982 Barbeito

Post by Nick M. »

Hello All! My twin brother and I are turning 30 next month and I was looking at the 1982 Barbeito Boal for a nice gift. Any opinions on this or anything else dated in 82 (if there are others)? I could just do a nice 30 year of something else, but I liked the idea of having 1982 on the bottle and the reviews are good on this.

I found a single bottle....any suggestions on where this could be obtained otherwise?

Suggest what most of us use to check-out the wine scene: wine searcher.com. The pro version is, personal opinion, a good investment.

good and happy hunting

Just had two versions of this. One bottled in 2007 was a bit hazy, but good concentration, classic Boal flavor profile. High quality.
There was then another version of this same wine, that was placed in demijhohn in 2007, but then back in small casks for further aging and only bottled this year. This showed even more concentration and richness and was superb.

Eric,

Have you tried the 1978 boal? If so, how do the 1978 and 1982 compare? I'm very favorably impressed by the 1978.

If I remember correctly, I enjoyed the 78 Boal quite a bit as well. I think I'm going to give the edge to the 82, especially the recently bottled version.

Solely based upon Eric's experience, I went out and purchased the '82 Barbeito (2012 bottling) and the RWC Stratford Hall. [friends.gif]

Notes coming soon. :munch:

I'm working my way through the 1982 boal (2007 bottling) now. I agree with Eric's description, including the hazy presentation. So far I prefer the 1978 boal, but the 1982 is very good. RWC seems to be out of it at this point. If they ever get the 2012 bottling back in stock, I'll have to buy some.
