A Confraria do Vinho do Porto vai declarar 2003 como um Ano Vintage, depois de apurar que a quase totalidade das empresas obteve para o efeito a necessária autorização do Instituto dos Vinhos do Douro e Porto (IVDP).

A Confraria deverá fazer o anúncio numa cerimónia, em Novembro, pela primeira vez fora do Porto ou de Gaia. Será em Lisboa, para marcar o início de uma estratégia mais diversificada de divulgação, com o objectivo de dar mais visibilidade ao momento e mostrar a outras paragens a importância do celebração, como referiu ao JN Isabel Marrana, secretária-geral da Associação de Empresas do Vinho do Porto (AEVP).

Para que um ano seja declarado Vintage, basta que metade das empresas tenha obtido essa declaração para os seus vinhos. No caso da produção de 2003, foi praticamente a totalidade do sector, entre produtores e engarrafadores, num universo de 43.

Chuva e calor q.b.

O ano de 2003 reuniu determinadas condições atmosféricas que permitiram dar ao vinho as características de excepcional qualidade de um Vintage o Inverno foi chuvoso, o que permitiu criar reservas de água, e o Verão quente e seco. Uma ligeira queda de chuva nos finais de Agosto e o tempo ter-se mantido seco durante a vindima fizeram com que aquele ano tivesse as condições consideradas ideais para se produzir grandes vinhos, explicou ao JN fonte do IVDP.

Acerca dos elementos identificativos dos Vintage de 2003, o IVDP destaca que têm "uma cor retinta, aromas maduros e apresentam taninos firmes que lhe auguram um bom potencial de envelhecimento".

Ao longo da última década, o ano que tem o maior consenso relativamente à melhor qualidade é o de 2000. Os Vintage da viragem do milénio têm estatuto quase mítico. As provas até agora realizadas levam os especialistas a acreditar que os de 2003 tenham uma "qualidade muito grande", próxima da verificada nos anos de 1994 ou 1997.

Por definição, os Vintage são vinhos de qualidade excepcional, provenientes de uma só colheita. São obrigatoriamente engarrafados entre o segundo e o terceiro ano após a colheita. No momento da aprovação (aos dois anos - daí que só agora seja possível avaliar a produção de 2003), deve apresentar-se retinto e muito encorpado, conforme se pode ler na definição dada pelo IVDP.
