I just looked through some notes and was reminded of this producer who I came across at a wine fair last March. Does anybody here have experience with their wines and know anything about the producer? The name sounds like a coop.
I tasted four wines, and two of them tickled my fancy. Among the two sparkling ones, Vértice Reserva 2004 seemed very dry, almost neutral, whereas Vértice Super Reserva 2000, which had rested four years on the lees, showed some autolytic character, citrus and stone. It had high acidity, no dosage and was totally dry. A wine of real character and quite unexpected from the Douro, I thought.
The two reds were Vértice Grande Reserva 2003, which showed quite soft/sweet fruit with some oak — nice enough, but more interesting was the Quanta Terra Grande Reserva 2004, with purer, cooler fruit and more structure, what I think of as Portuguese tannins.
This producer was looking for an importer, and from the fact that the wines are not for sale here in Norway, I can only conclude that they didn't succeed. It's not the end of the world, perhaps, but I think the one sparkling wine, in particular, would add some variety to the selection of wines available over here. Anyway, I'd appreciate any information on this producer.
