Help identifying a mystery wine

Post by Andrew Hall »

I had a user on CellarTracker recently submit this wine for me to add to our database and I am puzzled.

I think I understand what the wine is, but there seems to be no producer. Is this really just some 'novelty' unearthed, re-corked and labelled? Who are OP Brothers?

Can anyone help explain what the wine is and any further details so I properly enter it in CellarTracker?

I have currently have the wine here : https://www.cellartracker.com/wineadmin ... ne=3383283

Thanks,

Andrew Hall

I've seen a bunch of O.P. Brothers bottles listed at auction, but don't know the background. We might get more answers if we move this to the Madeira forum.

Apparently the OP brothers have bought up some old cellars on the island, recorked many of them and sold them as negociants. I would think this is a grower's wine.
In one of his articles Richard Mayson says OP stands for Oleg and Pedro.
I have a bottle purchased at auction from the OP brothers. It has the same sticker on the bottle. Haven't tasted it yet.

Thanks, guys.

Re Madeira : it says Douro on it which is why I went to this forum vs Madeira. Producer clearly sounds like Unknown is accurate though.

The label in English was probably put on by the importer. I've seen import labels with the wrong region before.
