NV Quevedo 10 Year Old Tawny Port Tinta Francisca

Post by Glenn E. »

Quevedo 10 Year Old Tawny Port Tinta Francisca (bottled 2022)

Day 16 of the 2022 Quevedo Prestige Advent Calendar

Color: med dark… red? There are definitely some tawny notes creeping in. Possibly faintly orange at the rim. Looks more tawny than the standard 10, but still doesn't really look like a tawny. But both of these are closer than most of the previously tasted Colheitas in this Advent calendar.

Nose: slightly dusty, vanilla cake frosting, some very light mulled wine, maybe some very ripe purple fruits. Not really a nose of caramel, but rather a fullness similar to caramel. Definite minerality.

Palate: slightly brighter acidity than the standard 10, slightly less sweet (possibly the acidity), and slightly more complex. Kind of generic caramelized red fruit. Possibly some tannins? Not as easy drinking as the standard 10 but still nice.

Side note: 15 and 16 (the two 10 Year Old Tawny Ports) are better blended 50:50.

Score: 87 points. Not much to say here either… seems like a technically better Port but I miss the touch of extra sweetness shown in the standard version.

I had tried this one after bottling and I thought it was very educationnal to see what this grape could bring to Port. I felt it was very spicy/peppery for a Tawny.
