2003 Quevedo Colheita Port Burgundy Barrel

Post by Andy Velebil »

Advent Calendar: The color is still very dark with some bricking on the rim (same as the "Cask" version). A sweet nose that doesn't have near the vanilla bourbon like the 2013 did, though it has some. Much sweeter fruit profile than the 2013 and while it does have that vanilla component to it, it is not to the level of the 2013. Lovely dark fruit and soft tannins, this really shows that hot year ripe fruit and is more akin to an aging unfiltered LBV than a Colheita at the moment. It does lack some mid-palate complexity but ample amounts of acidity do come through to lift the long finish. I would say this is not ready to release on it's own yet, but would make an excellent blending component.
Not rated being effectively a cask sample.
