Great deal on VPs

Post by David Baghdassarian »

From Blicker Pierce - http://www.bpwine.com

I have no affiliation other than a satisfied customer of theirs. Saw the list in their daily email and wanted to share. These are apparently not listed on the site so you need to call.

Cheers!

I just talked to them, and they said that everything is going fast. If you're at all interested in any of these, call soon!

Got the e-mail and put in an order for 6. Of course I consulted the tasting notes section first :ftlop:
They aren't all great deals, as I found a few cheaper elsewhere and several others in the same ballpark. But there are some great bargains.

Yeah, I did some quick wine-searcher searches before I ordered. Several of the prices listed are basically right at the mainstream low price for the US on wine-searcher. A couple are a little bit higher, but within reason if you're going to order several other bottles (like the 1985 Fonseca, which is $95 here but can usually be found for $85 or $90). And there are a couple of gems available, too, like the 1963 Croft, 1970 Fonseca, and 1994 Taylor Fladgate.

My budget is a little tight right now, so I reigned in my impulse and "only" ordered a couple of bottles of the 1970 Fonseca. That's one of "Roy's 12" that I've been looking for at a reasonable price, and this seemed pretty good. I'm slowly collecting all 12 of those and hope to someday hold a tasting of the complete set. :lick:

I know Stefan Blicker well for many years and he has even flown up to drink wine at my home. If you mention you are from FTLOP, next time .... he will be willing to provide us with an exclusive and maybe even a discount if he sees how many of you saw this here. Again, tell Stefan you saw it on FTLOP and I think he'll be happy to do something special for us in the future.

I've done business with him for years, during the last 3 companies he's been associated with. Great guy and great service! You can be assured the bottles are in the condition that he tells you, if you ask. Also, give him a hard time about using Robert Parker scores (Parker hasn't rated Ports since 2000) and Suckling too ... his scores are 20+ years old already!

I called and wanted to order a couple of the '94 Taylors and they were sold out, ended up buying some '70 Taylors to add to my collection. The prices are great.

Saw someone trying to sell '94 Taylor on winecommune, say they bought the futures in 1993 and had the wine stored in a cool dry attic. Not quite sure how you buy futures when the wine had not even been bottled. Buyer beware

Would any of those be good choices for a Port-newbie?

(edit add: I see the 1970 Fonseca in Roy's Top 12 list, so that seems a good choice.)

I took a peek at their site. They had one Madeira:

1912 d`Oliveira Madeira Verdelho Reserva $309

Is that a good deal?

Also, on Cellar Tracker, there are two wines listed that could match this:

1912 D'Oliveiras Madeira Verdelho
1912 D'Oliveiras Madeira Verdelho Reserva

Are these really different wines?

Thanks,
